Facing the Phantom

The Panchantantra mentions this:

भयाद्धि भेत्तव्यं यावद्भयमनागतम् ।

आगतं तु भयं वीक्ष्य प्रहर्तव्यमशङ्कया ॥

Bhayaaddhi bhettavyam yaavad-bhayam-anaagatam |

Aagatam tu bhayam veekshya prahartavyam-ashankayaa ||

This means that ‘Fear should be feared only as long as it has not arrived. But once you see fear actually standing before you, strike it down without a single doubt. ’

We spend far more time and energy dreading a challenge than actually experiencing it. However, the moment we stop hesitating and actively step into what scares us, that towering monster almost always shrinks into a manageable hurdle. Action acts as a natural solvent for anxiety.Once you are in the thick of it, your survival instincts and problem-solving skills kick in, proving that you are far more resilient than your doubts gave you credit for.

The ghost of fear is always larger than the shadow it casts.
